Point Loma & Ocean Beach coverage
Point Loma and OB combine harbor air, older beach cottages and view homes - marine corrosion and character-home installations are the local signature.
Central San Diego mixes condos, high-rises and mid-century homes: building access, compact formats and remodel-era installations shape the visit as much as the appliance.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated cooktop repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a standalone cooktop request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, fuel type, cutout or installation.
Describe which position is affected, the selected setting and what happens. A no-heat symptom alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the burner or zone, cookware used, selected level and whether the behavior changes. Do not continue testing a surface that overheats or will not shut off.
Note which control was selected and what you safely observed before stopping use. Never relight manually, clear ports with tools, adjust a valve or reproduce a gas or flame concern.
Photograph the visible condition without pressing, lifting or using the damaged area. Stop use if glass is cracked or live parts may be exposed.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords, remove knobs to access components, enter diagnostic modes or assume a code is universal.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the cooktop. Do not lift it from the counter or touch power, gas, ventilation or mounting connections.
San Diego installations
Surface and fuel type set the service path—identify yours from the model label, not the look of the surface.
Burners, igniters and spark modules. Clicking that will not stop is a common, diagnosable symptom—do not keep triggering it.
Elements and surface switches under a glass top. A cracked top is replaced as a part, quoted by exact model.
Sealed electronics drive the cost profile. Cookware compatibility issues can mimic faults—note the pan you used.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the cooktop, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Do not reproduce the problem. If there is fire, smoke, exposed live parts or any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not touch the surface, controls or nearby electrical/gas connections.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the cooktop, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for approved surface, burner, grate and exterior care. Do not use a generic reset or unverified cleaning method as a diagnostic step.
Do not lift the cooktop from the counter, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or mounting connections. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No general cooktop error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.
For a complete range with an oven cavity, use the distinct range repair parent. For a separate built-in or wall oven, use the oven repair parent. Those pages are not duplicate targets for this standalone-cooktop identity.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.
Review current pricing information90-day labor warranty.
1-year parts warranty.
Both terms begin on the date the repair is completed.
An online request starts scheduling; it does not by itself confirm an appointment or a model-specific repair outcome.

Spark ignition relies on dry insulators and clean terminals. Damp air, a recent wipe-down or a boil-over can let the spark leak to ground, so the module keeps firing. If drying the top stops it, moisture was the cause. If it keeps happening, a switch, electrode or ground connection is likely corroded and should be tested.
Usually not. Some cookware with layered bases hums on induction, and the cooling fan makes noise while the electronics are hot. A grinding fan, a buzz that changes with every pan, or a zone that shuts off with an error code is different. Those point to a fan or power board fault.
We advise against it. The glass is often sold as an assembly with elements or sensors, and the job means working on live electrical connections. A crack can also let spills reach the wiring below. Stop using the affected zones, switch off the breaker, and have the top inspected.
Yes. We service gas, electric radiant and induction cooktops. For gas, we check ignition, burners and valves. For induction, we check cooling, coils and power boards. If a pacemaker or implant is a concern, follow your physician and the maker's manual.
Local notes · Point Loma
Point Loma is a peninsula with the Pacific on one side and San Diego Bay on the other, so kitchens here breathe damp, salty air most of the year. A cooktop is full of small metal contacts that do not like that air: spark electrodes and switch terminals on gas models, board connectors and cooling fans on induction units. Many symptoms that look like a dead part begin as corrosion or moisture at one of those contacts. We repair cooktops from GE and Whirlpool to Bosch, Thermador and Wolf in homes from Loma Portal to La Playa.
Each cooktop type has its own weak spot in a marine setting. On a gas unit, every burner has a ceramic spark electrode wired to a spark module. The module fires when any knob turns, and it needs a clean ground path to finish the circuit. Salt film on an electrode tip, a crusted wire terminal, or a knob switch that takes on moisture can make a burner click nonstop or refuse to light. May Gray and June Gloom keep the air cool and damp near the coast, and a boil-over on top of that humidity leaves switches wet longer. Induction works differently. A copper coil under the glass creates a field of roughly 25 to 50 kHz that heats a magnetic pan directly. The power electronics that drive the coil get hot, so a fan pulls cabinet air across them. That air carries whatever the house has: salt mist through open windows near Sunset Cliffs and Shelter Island, pet hair, and dust. Radiant glass tops sit between the two. Their ribbon elements are simple, but the switches and relays that feed them share the same exposure. In all three types, corrosion tends to show up first where two metals meet.
Symptom: The igniters keep sparking with the knob off, or keep clicking after the flame is lit. Cause: Moisture from cleaning or a boil-over, a burner cap that is not seated, a wet or failing knob switch, a ground or polarity fault, or a spark module worn by corrosion. Fix: Dry and reseat caps first; if it continues, we test switches, polarity and ground, then replace the faulty part.
Symptom: A zone drops out after several minutes, an error code appears, or the fan runs loud. Cause: The cooling path is blocked by a drawer or stored items, or the fan is clogged with dust and pet hair, so the power board overheats and protects itself. Fix: Open the air path under the cabinet, clean or replace the fan, and test the power board and coil if the fault returns.
Symptom: The zone light blinks and nothing heats. Cause: Cookware that is not magnetic, warped or too small, a pan off-center, or a failed coil or power board. Fix: We test with a pan a magnet sticks to. If a known-good pan still fails, we diagnose the coil and board.
Symptom: One zone never heats, or it glows red at every setting. Cause: An open ribbon element, a failed infinite switch or relay, or a tripped limiter. Fix: Measure the element and switch, then replace the failed part. A cracked glass top usually means replacing the top, often with its elements.
Wipe sugary spills from glass as soon as it is safe; sugar can pit and crack the surface. On gas tops, lift the caps after cleaning and let the burner heads dry before lighting. Clear clogged ports with a toothpick, not a metal pin. For induction, keep the vent path below the unit open and use flat, clean-bottomed pans. SDG&E recommends a yearly check of gas appliances and offers no-cost safety checkups. If you ever smell gas, leave the house first and call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 9-1-1 from outside.
Most calls take place at the counter. We need to reach the unit from above and, for induction and many gas models, from the cabinet below, so please empty the space under the cooktop. Have the model and serial number ready; they are usually on a label under the unit or on the manual. Tell us whether it runs on natural gas or propane, which burners or zones fail, and whether the problem comes and goes with the weather. A short video of a clicking igniter helps.
Switches, electrodes, spark modules and radiant elements are modest repairs, and they are the most common failures. Induction power boards and replacement glass are the expensive end, and on an older, lower-priced unit they can approach the cost of a new cooktop. The $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, gives you the part and labor picture before you decide.
